(Temporary notice: to be removed after March 7, 2026)
Development-focused basketball experience built on flexibility and shared responsibility
We are planning to start after Ankeny school district spring break, which is March 13-20.
Total costs can only be estimated at this time, but you can expect that cost will be approximately $65 per month for court rentals. Tournaments and other expenses are TBD (and optional). See more details in the Program Overview below.
Costs are shared among participating families. Current plans are to rent courts for 3 hours per week at $65/hour, which equals $780 per month. Divided among 12 families, that is $65 per family. If we have more or less than 12 players, that will have an impact on final costs. This is a rule of thumb estimate.
Current plans are 3 nights per week, 1 hour per night.
Planned days: Mon–Wed–Fri. Times TBD but will start on or after 5:30 PM and end on or before 9:30 PM. Plans are subject to change, but we want to share current plan. Since courts have not been reserved, this is our best guess at this time. Actual practice time will depend on court availability.
Current plans are for practices to be at Prairie Trail Sports Complex in Ankeny.
Court rentals are not yet finalized. As the season progresses we will have flexibility to look at other court rental options. If anyone has access to a lower cost (or free!) option, let us know.
Having 3 practices gives the best chance for more kids to be able to attend at least 2 per week.
We will have kids participating in other activities and finding 2 days when everyone is free, is an impossible task.
The goal is flexibility. With three practices weekly, players can hopefully attend at least two. If only one is possible, that is completely fine. Tournaments are optional, and you only pay for tournaments your player participates. We understand schedules are busy.
Tournament dates are TBD. We will not begin tournaments until April, and they will always be optional.
We aim for at least 7 players, preferably 8–10 attending each event.
Actual participation is still being finalized. Current estimates are 12 players, with up to 18. This will allow us flexibility in scheduling tournaments, as there will be very few, if any, weekends when everyone is available for a tournament. This number also will also help keep costs per family down. Participants may also change month-to-month as schedules change and word gets out.
We aim for at least 7 players, preferably 8–10 attending each event. We also have potential to bring 2 teams if ever there is a tournament that we have 14 or more available to attend.
Tournament fees vary but are typically between $150–$300 per team. Costs are shared among participating players. We will communicate tournament dates and costs and ask for commitments before signing up, and participation is always optional. For this reason, coaches and organizers ask for quick responses to inquiries about tournament interest throughout the season.
No. Payments are month-to-month and you only commit for months you choose to participate.
We are only asking families to commit a month at a time. If you need to stop, for any reason, that is fine. There will be no hard feelings, or pressure to continue.
No. Payment covers the full month. Please understand, our coaches front all expenses, so refunds are not available for missed practices.
Spring and summer are busy. Players have other sports, activities, and family plans. Missing a practice or tournament is okay. We work around real life.
Skill work and team concepts are blended together and adjusted as players grow. Development is individualized, not generic.
Practices and games are led collaboratively with Oliver Almazan and Mike Bergman as main on-court coaches. This is not a profit model. Everyone shares responsibility and costs.

Timely responses help us:
Prompt replies keep everything running smoothly and fairly for all families.
Flexibility only works when everyone participates in planning. Many athletes play multiple sports, so practice schedules may vary week to week. We are considering scheduling two or three practices weekly with the expectation most players attend at least two.
When we send tournament interest messages, quick replies help determine:
Our spring/summer season generally follows the same timeframe as local basketball clubs. Most teams hold tryouts in late February or early March and begin practices mid to late March. As a rule of thumb, expect Rise Up practices to begin around that same period.
Because we are a cooperative group and not a traditional club, we have flexibility in when practices start and when our final games occur. Our season will likely wrap around June or July, but timing ultimately depends on participation and group interest.
Practice days, times, and locations depend on court availability and family schedules. Once availability is collected, we will coordinate times. Schedules may adjust week to week. Our goal is to identify 2–3 practice days where most players can attend at least two sessions.
We do not set a full tournament schedule in advance. Instead, we evaluate opportunities throughout the season. Events are optional and depend on player availability, interest, and whether we can field a competitive roster.
Players join by invitation or referral rather than tryouts. Costs are shared only among participating players, and commitments are month-to-month. If participation drops or interest slows, we can pause activities rather than continuing unnecessary expenses.
A fall season may be possible depending on interest and how the spring/summer session goes. We fully support players who also participate with school teams or other clubs, and our goal is to complement those experiences, not compete with them. (unless we meet them on the court!)
Schedules, practice plans, and event opportunities will be shared directly with families as they are confirmed. Because plans may change week to week, timely responses help us coordinate courts, teams, and logistics effectively.
We understand players have other sports, school events, and family commitments. We simply ask that families communicate availability honestly and promptly so we can plan practices, tournaments, and costs responsibly for everyone involved.
Costs are shared only among participating players, with commitments requested on a month-to-month basis.
Estimates assume 12 players and 1-hour practices. Actual costs may increase or decrease depending on the number of players and hours of court time rented (local courts are approximately $65/hour).
We aim for a minimum of 12 players, with a maximum of 16–18 on the roster. This allows us to field a competitive 7–9 player team for any given tournament and the possibility of sending two teams if participation allows. Details on how payments are calculated and collected can be found in the What Parents Can Expect section further down the page.
| Number of Players (estimate) |
Practices Per Week (1 hour practices assumed) |
Total Weekly Court Cost | Weekly Practice Time Cost Per Player (estimate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 | 2 | $130 / week | ~$11 / week |
| 12 | 3 | $195 / week | ~$16 / week |
Actual costs depend on number of players, number of practices, and practice length.
More players = lower cost per player
Fewer players = higher cost per player
Families only pay for tournaments their player attends. Events are selected based on availability, interest, and roster readiness. Fees are shared when invitations go out.
Reversible tops are being finalized with a local vendor. Estimated cost is about $50 to keep. If this is a concern for any family, options can be arranged including potential seasonal rentals.
Before each month begins, coaches will create a practice schedule, reserve courts, and pay facility fees upfront so families know the plan in advance.
Monthly court costs are divided per player using an estimated 75–80% participation rate of the available roster. This keeps costs predictable while accounting for real-life scheduling conflicts.
Once court costs are finalized, families will receive a message with the exact amount owed for that month based on each player’s share. We ask that families pay promptly. It will be understood that costs will not be refunded for practices a player cannot attend in a month that has already been paid in advance
Our coaches are parents, not paid staff. We pay the same shared costs as everyone else and cover any shortfall if participation falls below break-even for a given month and in most cases coaches are fronting all costs for court rentals, tournaments fees, and uniforms.
If participation exceeds expectations and creates extra funds, coaches will first offset any past losses. If none exist, the surplus will be returned to participating families.
Tournament fees are collected only from players who attend and are split evenly. Any additional expenses, such as uniforms, will always be communicated and collected in advance.
Preferred payment method is Venmo, but we can offer other payment methods if needed. Venmo payment information will be shared in future team communication.
All court fees, tournament costs, and other expenses will be clearly communicated to families. Coaches keep records of payments and expenditures, and decisions about spending or refunds are shared openly to ensure fairness and trust.
This is a cooperative group, not a formal club. It works best when:
We appreciate the strong interest and look forward to a great season.
Coaches make playing time decisions based on game situations, matchups, effort, attitude, and team needs. We compete to win while still making sure all players have opportunities to contribute.
Our goal is long-term player growth. Game minutes are one part of development, but learning the game, improving skills, and building confidence matter just as much.
Every player participates fully in every drill and practice segment. Reps are where players improve most, and everyone receives equal access to training and instruction.
Players get out of the program what they put into it. Effort, focus, coachability, and consistency directly influence growth and opportunities on the court.
Make sure we have your contact info so we can send updates and scheduling details. This form is not a commitment to the program.
Fill Out Contact FormOur coaches are volunteers and parents themselves. They generously give their time, energy, and resources to make this experience possible for every player. We ask that all communication reflects appreciation and respect for their role.
If a concern arises during a game or event, please wait at least 24 hours before reaching out. This allows emotions to settle and helps ensure conversations are constructive and productive.
Parents are always welcome to communicate about schedules, logistics, injuries, or anything that affects their child’s ability to participate. Questions about development are also welcome when approached respectfully and at appropriate times.
Whenever appropriate, we encourage players to speak with coaches directly about questions or feedback. Learning to communicate respectfully with coaches is an important life skill and part of the development process.
Game days are for players and coaches. Please avoid discussing playing time, strategy, or coaching decisions before, during, or immediately after games.
We all want the same thing: a positive experience where players grow, compete, and enjoy the game. When communication stays respectful and solution-focused, everyone benefits.
Coaches volunteer their time and may not respond immediately. Allow up to 48 hours for a reply on non-urgent matters. This ensures communication remains manageable and focused.
All messages should be courteous and professional. Avoid negative assumptions or blaming language. Constructive communication helps coaches make the best decisions for all players.
If questions arise about schedules, email Mike at bergmanmj@hotmail.com or use other accepted Team Communicartion channels.
